What This Is

Most courses
teach you. This one
makes you do it.

Day 1-2
Pick
You pick the platform, the topic, and the hook. We give you the exact criteria for choosing all three so your starting point is already better than 90% of what gets posted today.
Day 3-5
Build
You build the video using the anatomy Matt has used across 35M+ followers. Hook. Body. Loop. Every element has a job. You'll know what yours is before you film a single second.
Day 6-7
Post.
You film it, edit it, and post it. That's the whole challenge. The community reviews it before it goes live. Matt gives feedback in the VCA community. Then it's on the internet and the algorithm decides.
The Challenge

7 days.
One video.
No excuses.

Every day has one lesson and one deliverable. If you do the work, by Day 7 you have a video that's ready to post. This isn't a course you "finish" and never use. This is a workflow you learn by doing once and use forever.

Day01
Choose Your Weapon
Mission: Pick your platform + content angle
You're not making a video for everyone. You're making one video for the right people on the right platform. Day one is about making that decision with a framework instead of a guess. The platform you choose changes everything about how you structure the video: what the hook looks like, how long it runs, what the algorithm rewards.
✓ Deliverable: Platform selected + angle written in one sentence
Day02
The Hook Is Everything
Mission: Write 5 hook options and pick the strongest one
Your hook has three jobs: stop the scroll, answer "why am I watching this," and plant a curiosity bomb that makes leaving feel wrong. You'll write five versions using five different hook types: Bold Claim, Pattern Interrupt, POV Open, Curiosity Gap, and Controversy Bait. Then you'll learn how to test them against each other before you film anything.
✓ Deliverable: 5 hook drafts, one selected with reasoning
Day03
The Anatomy of a Video That Travels
Mission: Map your full video structure using the 5-part anatomy
Every video that crosses a million views has the same skeleton, regardless of niche or creator. Hook. Tension builder. Value delivery. The loop trigger. CTA. This module breaks down each section with real examples: what it looks like in a dance video, a tutorial, a talking-head, a challenge. You'll map your entire video before you film a single second.
✓ Deliverable: Full video outline using the 5-part anatomy
Day04
The Setup
Mission: Prep your environment, audio, and opening frame
The production decisions that actually move the needle, and the ones that are a complete waste of time. How to shoot with your phone and have the result look like a choice, not a limitation. The one lighting setup that works everywhere. Why the first frame of your video matters as much as the first sentence, and how to design it intentionally.
✓ Deliverable: Location chosen, frame planned, audio tested
Day05
Film It
Mission: Shoot your video - multiple takes, multiple hooks
Film day. You're shooting at least three different takes of the hook before anything else. Why? Because the hook is where videos live or die, and your first take is almost never your best one. Record the full video, but treat the hook as its own separate project. Matt's rule: if the hook doesn't feel right in takes one through three, change the words, not the energy.
✓ Deliverable: Raw footage captured, three hook variations filmed
Day06
Edit for Watch Time
Mission: Edit your video with watch time as the only metric
Every cut you make should answer one question: does leaving this in make people more or less likely to watch to the end? You'll edit for watch time, not aesthetics. The pacing guide for your specific platform. How to use text overlays to spike retention in the middle of a video. The loop ending: how to cut the last frame so the video starts again without the viewer realizing it.
✓ Deliverable: Edited video, submitted to VCA community for feedback
Day07
Post. Watch. Learn.
Mission: Publish your video and document the first 48 hours
You post it. Then you don't touch it for 24 hours. After 24 hours you check one thing: watch time percentage. That number tells you more about your video than any other metric. Over 50%? The structure worked. Under 30%? We'll help you diagnose exactly where people are leaving. Either way, you've just done what most creators never do - you made a video that was built with intention and actually went out the door.
✓ Deliverable: Video live, 48-hour analytics screenshotted, lesson documented
Day 3 Deep Dive

The anatomy of
a video that
goes somewhere.

Hook
Tension
Value Delivery
Loop Trigger
CTA
Hook
0-3 seconds. Stop the scroll. Answer "why am I watching this" before anyone asks. One job only.
Tension
3-8 seconds. Plant the thing they need to stay to find out. A question, a claim, a problem named.
Value
8 sec - near end. Deliver on the promise. Faster than they expect. Better than they hoped for.
Loop Trigger
Last 2 seconds. A visual, a phrase, or an edit that makes rewatching feel natural. Rewatch rate is a top signal.
CTA
Optional. If you have somewhere to send them, do it in one sentence. Don't belabor it.

This structure applies whether your video is 15 seconds or 3 minutes. The proportions shift: a 15-second video compresses everything into shorter beats, but the sequence is the same. Every video that travels has all five. Every video that dies is missing at least one.

Hook Bank - Challenge Promo Videos

How Matt promotes
the challenge.

These are the hook videos Matt films to drive signups for the challenge itself. Short. High energy. Each one is proof-of-concept for what the challenge teaches.

01
"I'm issuing a challenge. 7 days to your first million-view video. $27. Here's the deal."
Why it works: "I'm issuing a challenge" is an action that creates stakes. The specifics ($27, 7 days, million views) eliminate ambiguity immediately. Film this standing up, high energy, like you're calling someone out in the best possible way.
02
"I've been teaching people how to go viral for 10 years. Here's the thing I wish I could have given people at the start, everything distilled into 7 days."
Why it works: Authority + gift framing. "Everything distilled" signals density of value without overwhelming. Film this warmer, more personal. Sit down for this one. This is the "I made this for you" energy.
03
"Most people will never post a video that hits a million views because they never actually try to make one intentionally. This challenge fixes that."
Why it works: Challenges a passive mindset without being condescending. "Intentionally" is the key word - it reframes viral from luck to skill. Medium energy, direct. Point straight to camera for the last sentence.
04
"$27. 7 days. One video built to hit a million views. The challenge starts [date]. Link in bio."
Why it works: Pure urgency. Nothing else. No explanation, no setup. Film this at the end of a longer hook video as the CTA, or as a standalone 15-second reminder post in the 48 hours before the challenge opens.
05
"Watch this if you've been posting for months and nothing's hit. I'm going to show you exactly why, and fix it in 7 days."
Why it works: Speaks directly to the frustrated creator. "I'm going to fix it" is a bold, direct promise. Film this close to camera, unhurried. The empathy needs to come through before the confidence does.
06
"Day 7 of the challenge. [Creator] just posted their video. Here's what happened."
Why it works: This is the proof video - film it during or after a live challenge cohort. Social proof in real time is the most powerful thing you can put in front of someone who's considering signing up. Results beat promises every time.
